The Sunday Times Young Writer of the Year Award 2017: Shadow Panel Winner and a Giveaway

And the shadow panel winner is…

The Lucky Ones by Julianne Pachico!

Young Writer of the Year Award Shadow Panel Winner

The overall shortlist was very strong indeed and I enjoyed reading all of the books by five very talented writers. However, we were particularly impressed with the exceptional skill and creativity Pachico demonstrated in her ambitious debut collection of interlinked short stories. The Lucky Ones is a worthy shadow panel winner but we’ll have to wait until Thursday 7th December to see who will win the overall prize.

I have really enjoyed participating in this year’s shadow panel with fellow book bloggers Rebecca at Bookish Beck, Annabel at annabookbel, Dane at Social Bookshelves and Eleanor at Elle Thinks. Here we are at our meeting last week with a suitably bookish backdrop:

Finally, we are also hosting a book giveaway in which five lucky winners can each choose one of the books from this year’s shortlist. Follow this link to enter the giveaway and then either tweet a message (I’ve entered to #win a @YoungWriterYear book with the #YoungWriterAwardShadow bloggers! #competition #books #reading), leave a comment on this page with the name of the shortlisted book you would like to win, or follow our Twitter accounts. The competition is open to UK residents only and ends at midnight on Thursday 7th December. Good luck!

I’d like to win The Lucky Ones because I’d read or heard of the others before the announcement, but not your winner, so am excited to be able to discover something brilliant and new!
